Dragons Fall at Towson, 12-6

Towson, Md. – Drexel women's lacrosse lost to Towson, 12-6, in a Colonial Athletic Association game played at the Tigers' Johnny Unitas Stadium. Kerry Kelly (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) notched three goals but Towson's Shannon Witzel scored four times while teammate Hillary Fratzke added three goals and a pair of assists to lead the Tigers to victory. The loss dropped the Dragons to 10-5 (2-4 CAA) while Towson improved to 6-7 (3-3 CAA). The teams came into the game in a three-way tie with Old Dominion for fourth place in the conference.
Drexel opened the game's scoring with a Kelly goal less than 90 seconds into the game. Towson answered with three straight goals, including a pair from Witzel. The Dragons stormed back to tie the game on Emily Hoesch's (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) 41st goal of the season then Kelly's second tally of the game. Witzel wasted little time returning the lead to the Tigers as she notched her hat trick less than two minutes after Kelly's goal. Towson would go on to score four more goals to give the Tigers an 8-3 lead. Kelly's third of the game brought the Dragons to within four goals but Ali Alati scored for Towson 20 seconds later until freshman Katie Lawson (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) answered with just three seconds remaining in the first half as the teams headed to halftime with the Tigers enjoying a 9-5 lead.
Out of halftime, the Tigers put the game away with a pair of goals to increase their lead to 11-5. Drexel would not score into Hoesch netted her second of the game with less than 11 minutes remaining in the game. The Tigers held on to pick up the 12-6 victory. Drexel defender Maura Cullen (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) had a game-high four caused turnovers while picking up a team-high four groundballs.
Towson held a 13-7 advantage on the draws while the Tigers out shot Drexel, 32-22, for the game. Dragons' netminder, Lauren LaBella (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) made 12 saves while Mandy Corry stopped eight Drexel shots in earning the win.
The Dragons wrap up their conference season on Sunday, April 22 as Delaware visits Vidas Field. Prior to the game, Senior Day festivities will held honoring Drexel's five seniors on this year's team.
